Westborough EDC Awards $10,000 in Grants to Small Businesses
The Westborough Economic Development Committee (EDC) is excited to announce the award of two Small Business Grants to the Academy of Dance Expressions and the eBridge Montessori School. Each business was awarded a grant of $5,000 by unanimous vote of the EDC at its meeting held on October 1, 2019.
These grants are the second round of awards made by the EDC since the launch of the Small Business Grant Assistance Program this summer.
Jin Huang, owner of eBridge Montessori School and the Westborough Crossing plaza, was awarded funds to offset costs for a complete renovation of the school’s playground surface, which included a replacement of the surface from wood mulch to artificial turf. According to Huang, the benefits of artificial grass include improved safety conditions for the students and an expansion of outdoor activities, making the school more attractive to new families seeking to enroll their children in preschool. “With this new playground surface, we fixed the drainage issue and will be able to go outside more often now,” said Huang. “The children just love it.” The independent private school was founded in 2005 and is located at 57 East Main Street. They offer a full range of Montessori education to children from 6 weeks to 6 years old.
The Academy of Dance Expressions is preparing to move into a permanent home in Suite 103 in Bay State Commons (next to Ted’s Montana Grill). The business was previously located in space that is now occupied by Reliant Medical Group and temporarily has been located next to Roche Bros. Owner Laurene Aldorisio stated she will use grant funds towards the costs of the site build out. Specifically, she will install dance floors referred to as “Marley Floors” which is an ideal surface for dancing. Dance Expressions has been a part of Westborough’s community for over 20 years. Their mission is to inspire and nurture dancers to reach their fullest potential. They offer classes and dance instruction for children and adults of all ages.
